Cambodia Casinos
October 17th, 2009 by Alannah

There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is banned. Eight casinos are established in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect destination, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 1700, and though visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel compound that features many amenities accompanying the gambling den, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
