There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling den wagering is against the law. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent spot, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling hall, highlights 150 slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that contains many luxuries in addition to the gambling den, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
