Cambodia Gambling Halls
April 12th, 2024 by Alannah

There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den gaming is banned. Eight casinos are established in a relatively small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect area, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel complex that contains a number of comforts aside from the gambling hall, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 table games.
